Watershed Description
Northern Atlantic Strand watershed is located on the immediate Atlantic Ocean coast north of Indian River Inlet. It includes the “point” at Cape Henlopen. Most of the area is part of the Atlantic Ocean as Marine Nearshore Water.
Watershed Area: 1,890 acres (765 hectares)
Location: Central Sussex County in southeastern Delaware on the Atlantic Ocean coast.
Flow Direction: None
Characteristics: Dynamic sand along the Atlantic Ocean coast.
Major Vegetation Communities/Land Covers
Marine Nearshore Water that is part of the Atlantic Ocean ranks #1. Beach adjacent to the water ranks #2. Impervious surface on the road and parking lots ranks a distant #3. Sand that is not part of the beach ranks #4. Finishing the list is Beachgrass-Panicgrass Dune Grassland at #5.
